Kitna Says Lions Will Win at Least 10 Games
Posted by Matt Loede on June 24th, 2007 filed in OpinionsLions QB Jon Kitna is throwing out a rather bold precdiction today in the Sunday Detroit
Free Press. Kitna went on record earlier this week on WDFN and stated that the Lions, will win more than 10 games this upcoming season. Yes, the same Lions that went 3-13 last season, earning them WR Calvin Johnson with the second pick in this past April’s draft. Yes, the same Lions that right now are a laughing stock to the rest of the National Football Leauge. Yes, the same Lions that have gone a putrid 24-72 in the Matt Millen Era.
But here is Kitna going on record making predictions that make the rest of the NFL laugh. “See, that was 10 games before I saw the schedule, too,” the quarterback told WDFN-AM (1130) this week. “I’ll keep to myself what I think we actually will win. But it’s more than 10 games. I think, last year, man, it really sucked,” Kitna said. “But the good thing about it, like coach (Rod) Marinelli said, he found out who wanted to be here, who didn’t, and he’s been able to put his stamp on this team.”
Sure Jon, don’t forget the Lions could not stop the run last year, make a big play when they needed it, and how about that running game, one of the worst in the National Football League. Unless the Lions go around and hijack players from around the league before opening day, I don’t think this team is any better than a 4-6 win team. As far as what Kitna thinks about his new toy in Johnson? “I don’t like putting a lot of pressure on people, but Calvin Johnson, to me, will have about the same impact that Reggie Bush had in New Orleans,” Kitna said. “He’s everything that they said he was and more. … I mean he’s 235 (pounds), runs a 4.3 (40-yard dash), he’s got tennis rackets for hands. …”
Wow, no pressure there. Just put him in the same boat as Reggie Bush, who had an outstanding year last season on a GOOD Saints team. Maybe Jon should stop writing cash with his mouth that his team can’t cash. Predicition here, opening day in Oakland - Raiders 24 Lions 10. There’s a prediciton for you.
