Kitna Says He’ll Throw 50 TD’s in 2007

It is the offseason for outlandish predictions for Lions quarterback Jon Kitna. After being just a few weeks removed from saying that his Detroit Lions will win “at least 10 games” in 2007, Kitna now has a new prediction. And this one is even more wild than the first. Kitna, talking to ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning last week, stated when asked how many TD passes he would throw in 2007, he threw out a rather high number - 50.
The exact quote that Kitna gave was: “We’ve been joking around as the passing-game crew — the receivers and tights ends and stuff — we’ve been breaking down our little huddles saying ‘50′ and all that stuff.” Then of course, realizing once again that he would be the butt of many jokes after such a statement, quickly scaled back - “But we know that’s an awful lofty goal.” Uh, no kidding Jon.
Considering that Kitna’s career high is 26 TD’s passes in 2003, I don’t see him and the Lions, sure to once again be one of the worst teams in the league in 2007, being able to reach that goal. I would be willing to bet that the Lions won’t even score 50 TD’s overall in 2007. Why suddenly Kitna has been making such bold predictions is wild. The Lions are still the Lions, and while the team appears to have a solid wide receiver ready for 2007 in Calvin Johnson, the team is still lacking in overall talent.
Kitna said that the team itself is not confident, and that is another thing that has to change in 2007. “The thing I think is holding back our organization is expectations,” Kitna said. “Our expectation level has to come up.” As does the play on the field Jon.

If the Lions win their remaining 4 games, and if Kitna throws 9 TDs in each of those 4 games (36 TDs) then Kitna’s predictions will be realized. Go Lions. Go away.
