RB Jones “Looking Good,” Hoping to Bounce Back in 07

Kevin Jones

If the Lions are going to have any success in trying to turn things around in 2007, they are going to need to shore up the running game, and it would be nice to have RB Kevin Jones back in the fold. Jones ran for 1133 yards back in 2004, but since then has run for just 664 and 689 yards the last two seasons. Jones last year averaged just 57.4 yards per game before missing the last few games with a serious foot injury.

He was placed on IR December 12th, two days after suffering the injury vs the Vikings. He was having his most productive year as a rusher and receiver, as he totaled 1209 total yards despite the Lions inability to rush the ball much. He was been on the road to recovery ever since, and this past week QB Jon Kitna seemed happy with the progress the back was making as he said that Jones is “looking good.”

The team is not ready to put a ton of stock in Jones, as they signed running back Tatum Bell, formally of the Denver Broncos. Bell, at 5-11, 213 pounds should be able to help out the running game a great deal. He will also help out the fact that the Lions last year were worst in the league in close games, which is games decided by 8 points or less. They were 2-9 in that department. As for Jones, his progress is only a good sign for a team that needs plenty of them in the 07 season.
