The Detroit Lions, reeling from their current losing streak, got some more bad news when team head coach Rod Marinelli announced during his weekly news conference Monday that Lions wide receiver Roy Williams suffered a sprained knee, specifically a sprained posterior cruciate ligament and will be sidelined indefinitely.  Marinelli added, “I don’t know how many weeks it is going to be.  It’s going to be several, so he could be done for the year.”

A fourth-year player, Williams has 63 receptions for 836 yards and five touchdowns.  Obviously, losing Williams is a huge hit on the Lions as they try to keep their wild-card hopes alive; they are tied with Arizona and Minnesota for the NFC’s last wild-card spot.  Expect rookie Calvin Johnson to get a bigger role in the Lions’ passing attack in the final 4 weeks.
