Martz Fired as Lions Offensive Coordinator
Posted by Matt Loede on January 2nd, 2008 filed in MainIn an expected move, the Lions have fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz. According to ESPN.com, the team has replaced Martz with offensive line coach Jim Colleto and wide out coach Kippy Brown. Colleto will be named offensive coordinator and remain the line coach, while Brown is being promoted to assistant head coach and passing game coordinator, and will also serve as running backs coach. The Lions were bad on offense when it came to running the ball in the two seasons Martz ran the show, 32nd in 2006 and 31st this season. They were in the top 10 in passing both seasons, but wore down as the season went along, and this past year started 6-2 before going into choke mode and ending 7-9. Martz’s son Tim was also let go, he was an offensive assistant.
