Is Stanton the Future at QB for the Lions?

Stanton

With clearly Jon Kitna nearing the end of his football career, who might be the man to take over the QB role for the Detroit Lions?  How about Drew Stanton?  Roy Williams is one man that thinks he might be the future of the position for the Lions, and yesterday on WDFN said as much.  “We have J.T. and we have Drew, and I think they’re really sold on Drew being the backup and one day being the starter here. But if one of those quarterbacks fall into our lap, like the Ryan kid, or if we happen to make a trade to get up, I think they might do that. Kitna is getting to be 97 years old, so we do need that solid backup.”  Hmmm…could Williams actually be posturing Stanton for a shot in 08?  He was the 43rd overall pick by the Lions in the 07 draft, but will need lots of time to get back to form after missing the season and being placed on IR back on August 3rd.  If he is the future, some of those questions may come out as early as spring mini-camps.
