The Detroit Free Press is reporting today that Jets LB Jonathan Vilma is in town to take a physical. The Jets have given the No. 12 overall pick in 2004 permission to seek a trade this offseason, and word is he’s already spoken to the Saints. Vilma is coming back from reconstructive knee surgery, which he underwent in November. He was a beast in his first three seasons with the Jets, putting up 108, 173 and 115 tackles in those first three years. Last season he played in just 7 games before having the surgery, and had 43 tackles. Word is if the Lions like what they see and he clears the physical, a deal could be announced as early as Friday.
