The Lions made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday to keep some players around, with the biggest deal being a new four-year contract to their all-time great kicker – Jason Hanson. Hanson will turn 39 this summer, but showed no signs of slowing down last season, making all eight of his attempted kicks from over 50 yards.

The Lions were prepared to designate Hanson as their franchise player this week if the two sides couldn’t agree to terms on a contract extension but Tuesday’s signing avoided that.

The team also restructured the contract of Daunte Culpepper and signed potential free agent Stephen Peterman to a long-term deal. The team did not release terms for any of the contracts announced.

Culpepper, who came out of retirement midway through last year’s 0-16 season, was due to receive a $2.5 million roster bonus later this month, but team president Tom Lewand said that the deal had been restructured. Culpepper is still on the last year of a two-year contract.

Peterman, a starting guard, will be around for five more seasons.
