Strategy for Drafting

stafford
Everybody is lining up now to say that The Lion’s are going to draft Matthew Stafford as the number one pick in the draft (that is if they can’t get Jay Cutler) because of how much he impressed The Lion coaches with his recent workout. They are falling all over themselves on what a great arm he has, what great footwork he has, and that he has the perfect size to be an NFL quarterback.

The Lions are on record as saying as much, which means that they will NOT draft him number one. What they are doing (and Matthew should be thanking The Lions) is driving up his value to where someone (The Jets, The Bears, even The Bronco’s) will say that they gotta have him, and they’ll make a trade with The Lions.

I see that team being The Bronco’s. They trade Baby Jay to The Lion’s for their number one pick, and throw in a second rounder because of how great Stafford is. If The Broncos don’t do it, someone else will.

I think they had to come out raving about his performance because they want to pick someone else… follow me… They talk up Stafford… but they want Smith… so by making it seem like Stafford has blown them away maybe it forces Smith and his agent to take a lesser deal for the honor of being #1… also it could push up trade value of Stafford in case someone is dumb enough to trade for that pick. All in all, even if he threw horribly, they were going to pimp him like crazy…

Good point. One thing is for certain, if they were going to take Stafford, they raved too highly of him. They wouldn’t do that because it does pump up his value too much. Would we even be talking about Stafford if Tim Tebow would have gone pro?

Count me as a Tebow lover.. the guy is a winner and I believe will be a great pro.
