Cutler Goes To Da Bears

The much anticipated trade of Baby Jay Cutler happened yesterday, and it has some folks proclaiming Chicago as the team to beat this year. Did I miss something? How many playoff games have the Bronco’s won with Jay as their starter? Zero. Bupkiss. Zilch. Nada.

You can argue that’s because the Bronco’s had no defense, but when you look at Jay’s stats, they are a bit misleading. He threw for over 4,000 yards which is great, but it is mostly because the Bronco’s had no running back (7 RB’s went on the DL last year), and they had to throw. The defense gave up a lot of points, so they had to air it out.

Also, look at who Cutler was throwing to. Brandon Marshall who is an outstanding receiver that can’t seem to stay out of trouble, Tony Scheffler, who is an absolute stud tight end, but can’t block, only catch, and Eddie Royal who was the top rookie receiver in the league last year. Who is Cutler going to throw to now? How many people out there know who the Bear’s receivers are? And Devin Hester doesn’t count becasue he’s only a part time receiver.

Their leading receiver was a running back, Matt Forte with 64 catches. 2nd was tight end Greg Olson with 54. Only time will tell on how this trade shakes out for both teams, but unless Mike Ditka comes back and sets Baby Jay straight, Da Bears won’t even win the weak NFC North.
