Lions 2009 Schedule 3 Key Moments from NFL.com

The Lions open the 2009 season in search of their first win since Dec. 23, 2007. The Saints crushed the Lions 42-7 in Week 16 last season, but the Lions bring a new general manager, a new coach and a new attitude into the Big Easy in 2009.

As tradition dictates, the Lions will host a nationally televised game on Thanksgiving. The Lions and the Packers will renew a Thanksgiving Day tradition, as the NFC North rivals faced off on Turkey Day every year from 1951-63, and will meet for the 19th time overall on the holiday.

Rod Marinelli was fired as the coach of the Detroit Lions after the team’s historic 0-16 finish last season. He returns to Ford Field in 2009 as the Bears’ defensive line/assistant coach. The Lions would like to keep both Marinelli and Jay Cutler winless in Detroit in 2009.
