The Lions still don’t have a starting QB, but today they opened their three-day minicamp and it was Daunte Culpepper as the QB taking most of the snaps with the first-team offense.
Culpepper thinks that he will get a fair shot at the starting QB job come the opener in September, this despite Matthew Stafford being the first overall draft pick.
“It’s way too early to tell. I mean, you don’t want to read too much into one day,” coach Jim Schwartz said.
“I’m gonna continue to be the person I am and the competitor I am and continue to get better and better. But I feel better than I did in 2004, so we’ll see what happens,” Culpepper said.
For now, it could easily be a situation that Culpepper starts the year as the number one, only to eventually give way to Stafford once he’s ready to run the offense.
