Fan Friendly Lions

The Lions (like all the other football teams) have a few practices that are open to the public, and in the past, the Lions were very stiff and seemed very standoffish. But this is a new regime, and starting from the top, (no not Mr. Ford), they are a different lot.

Max Perilstein and his son Zack visited the Lions practice today, and they were blown away by the “attitude” of everyone there. Starting with the parking lot attendants, and all the way to Coach Schwartz, they were friendly, helpful, kind, and most of all, were very happy to to see you. Zack got to get a picture taken with Coach Schwartz, and I’m sure that made his day and he will remember it forever.

One of the players, Chuck Darby, a 300 pound defensive tackle from South Carolina State came over and said to Zack, “What’s up big guy?” I’m sure Zack is looking to buy a Chuck Darby jersey as we speak.
Zack’s dad Max, by the way, is a sports junkie from Pittsburgh now living in Detroit, and even though he loves the Steelers, he is a Detroit Lion fan also. Some of his observations from practice today were as follows;

Daunte Culpepper is in great shape. I saw him 6 months ago, and he looked nothing like he did today. Now if only he could make his hands bigger to hold onto the football….

Drew Stanton pretty much sucks. He looked like he didn’t have a clue as to what he was doing. Probably too much partying at Michigan State.

Matt Stafford has a rocket for an arm. He may not have the accuracy on long throws, but his short to medium passes make Brett Favre look like he should retire.

A sleeper on the Lions to watch out for is Aaron Brown from Texas Christian. This guy is a speed demon and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him as the main kick returner.

Of course this doesn’t mean the Lions are going to win any more games, but at least it shows that the organization is willing to do whatever it takes to win the fans back.
