Lions Replace DeVries on the DLine Signing Former Brown Shaun Smith

Tom Kowalski reports the Lions moved quickly today to replace Jared DeVries, who was lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles’ tendon injury. The Lions inked free agent defensive end Shaun Smith to a one-year deal, his agent Neil Schwartz has confirmed.

Schwartz said Smith had already visited St. Louis and had a trip set up to visit Tampa, but cancelled it. “Shaun’s really excited to be in Detroit. He was very impressed with Coach (Jim) Schwartza, (defensive coordinator) Gunther Cunningham and (defensive line coach) Bob Karmelowicz. He told me ‘I really want to be here.”’
