Veteran DE DeVries Out for the Year w/ Torn Achilles

The Lions have lost veteran DE Jared DeVries for the season reports the Detroit News:

The Lions have lost veteran defensive end Jared DeVries for the season after he ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right ankle during a goal-line drill in practice Monday morning. The injury will require surgery and DeVries, an 11-year pro who has played his entire career in Detroit, will be placed on injured reserve. “It’s one thing in this league to know that you’re injured, it’s another thing to know that your season is gonna be over,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “And that’s a tough thing, when you’re as tough a player as Jared. when you’ve been through some of the things he has, that’s a tough realization. This is just a season-ending thing for him. There’s been a bunch of players that have come back from Achilles — it shouldn’t be a career-threatening thing.” DeVries, 33, has started 28 games over the last three seasons and was expected to be the team’s starting left defensive end again this fall.
