Pro Football Talk Lists Lions Last in Preseason Power Rankings

Mike Florio, the ringmaster at one of the best sources for up to date NFL news – profootballtalk.com – is compiling a list of preseason power rankings. Perhaps not surprisingly, he has listed the Detroit Lions dead last at #32.

To his credit, he readily admits that the preseason rankings don’t mean very much. Last year he ranked the Falcons last, and he claims that the Lions could make a similar turnaround this year. However, it is hard to argue that the Lions should be ranked anywhere else before the regular season starts.

Other possible contenders for 32nd place include the Browns, Raiders, Rams and Broncos. Lions fans can hope that by Week 1 of the regular season, the Lions will have moved past these and perhaps some other of the NFL’s lowlier teams. Still, while we may pray that the 2009 Lions will the equivalent of the 2008 Dolphins in terms of a turnaround, as one commenter at Pro Football Talk said, “the Lions have rarely exceeded expectations.”
