Lions Want Tony Scheffler to be a Playmaker in the Offense

NFL.com reports that the Lions want to get new TE Tony Scheffler more involved in the offense and have him be a big target as 2010 kicks off:

Much has been made of the different look the Lions will feature on offense this season after the additions of rookie RB Jahvid Best, WR Nate Burleson and TE Tony Scheffler, as well as the return of TE Brandon Pettigrew from injury. All of a sudden, offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has something to work with. The addition of Scheffler might have been the most unheralded of the moves. Taking a closer look at how the Lions will use the tight ends, Scheffler (a skilled receiver) and Pettigrew (a tough blocker) appear to be ideal compliments. The Lions have been using a lot of two tight end sets during camp, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, to take advantage of their personnel.
