Marcellus Wiley: Lions a 7-9 team in 2010

ESPN analyst Marcellus Wiley says that the Lions will be a 7-9 team in 2010:

“I was going to go 8-8 and it just sounded so pretty, and then I said, ‘Stop. Just, not yet,’ ” Wiley said. “There are growing pains, and maybe they can get hot. The only thing that helps a team like this is early confidence, like they go out there and they get a couple under their belt and then they feel good and they hit their first adversity and they respond. If they do that, 8-8 is in the books.

“The problem when you lose and you’re quote-unquote a losing team or a losing franchise is the doubt birds are too loud for you to shut them up and to quiet them. And every team, even the winning team has doubt birds, but some of them are little chirps and you can just say shut-up and we go out there and Peyton Manning throws a touchdown, there go those doubt birds. But for other teams they look around and they get louder and louder because no one’s making the play, everyone’s starting to doubt and it just echoes to the point where it really suffocates the team and they lose. That’s why bad teams don’t respond is because they let those doubts continue because no one is really going to make a play to stop it all. I think Detroit is on a growing process to finally getting those plays to occur at the right time.”
