Lions now have official, unofficial cheerleaders

Hmmm. The Lions for whatever reason have adopted a group to be their unofficial cheerleaders. Yes, 12 ladies known as the Detroit Pride will be at Ford Field Sunday for the home opener. It’s a rather odd story, more so when you read about it below.

The Lions have official, unofficial cheerleaders: the Detroit Pride. The group of 12 women, ages 18 to 34, will make its debut Sunday in and around Ford Field for the Lions home opener against the Eagles. The squad is not recognized as the Lions official cheerleaders. In fact, the team had to agree on several rules before being allowed inside of Ford Field. The rules are:

  • The group is not allowed to perform organized cheers.
  • They cannot obstruct the view of fans.
  • They are not allowed to take group photos of fans. Only two girls can appear in photos at a time.
  • They cannot wear Lions logos or team colors. Their uniforms are blue, but they can not be “Honolulu Blue.”
