Lions light up scoreboard, romp Rams 44-6

The Lions special teams unit was the story of the first half, but in a good way this season.  The Lions recovered a surprise onside kick on the opening kickoff of the game.  Stefan Logan busted a 105 yard kick return for a touchdown at the start of the second quarter.  The special teams kick started a Lions rout as the Lions pulled away after the touchdown return.

The Lions still haven’t gotten the run game going, but found ways to get Jahvid Best involved in the offense.  Best piled up over 100 all-purpose yards and had a couple long plays negated by penalties.  He still looks a little limited by the turf toe injuries.

Calvin Johnson didn’t have a huge game today, but made plays on the ball and his presence gave Nate Burleson opportunities.  The tight end duo didn’t put up the huge numbers they have been but Pettigrew got in the endzone for the first time and Scheffler played a huge role in the touchdown drive at the end of the first half.

The defense turned in an incredible performance with a sack, two picks, a fumble recovered in the red zone and a touchdown.  The Rams had trouble converting third downs and the Lions stopped a couple fourth down conversions as well.

The huge win was a relief for the Lions after four close games which the Lions came up short, but Calvin Johnson and Cliff Avril left with injuries and the Lions can only hope they aren’t serious.  The only other downer for the Lions had to be the 11 penalties which are becoming an issue for the Lions.

During halftime, Michael Strahan said that he spoke with a player from a team the Lions already played and he said, “the Detroit Lions are like a bull in a cage, and once they learn how to get out, and how good they are, they are going to be dangerous.”  Could this be the game that gets the Lions uncaged?
