Patriots-Lions First Quarter Thoughts

* Was there ever any doubt that Tom Brady would play in this game? I didn’t think so.

* Good start for the Lions, but only one first down and a punt.

* Ndamukong Suh gets to Brady to end the Pats first drive, no question who will be the NFL Defensive Rookie of the year, and maybe the overall Defensive Player of the Year.

* Lots of touches for Maurice Morris – 6 in the teams first 8 snaps.

* Poor punt coverage, Edleman returns it to Lions 43 as Pats start with a short field.

* Good coverage on third and goal for the Lions, stopping Wes Welker short. Lions had been pretty weak in Red Zone D recently, and here’s a good measuring stick of them stepping up.

* Hill almost picked..Pats do a great job with their coverages, and that time it almost killed the Lions.

* Hill could have run for the first there, but makes a good throw and the Lions covert.

* Slippery Shaun Hill…great run on third down gives the Lions the first. Two plays later – he does it again to get the Lions closer.

* Great play Hill to Johnson for the 19 yard touchdown on the last play of the quarter to make it 7-3.
