Lions Sign S Erik Coleman

Any player that is released prior to the 2010 league year close, March 3rd, immediately becomes a free agent (if they are not waiver eligible.  Shaun Rogers and Bob Sanders joined Erik Coleman in that category in the last few days.

The Lions went out and signed Erik Coleman to a reported one year deal today to bolster a young secondary.

Coleman began his career with the Jets and spent the last three years in Atlanta.  Atlanta released the 29 yer old Coleman last week.

Coleman is expected to compete for the starting strong safety position across from Louis Delmas.
