Former Lions WR Boyd Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

MLive.com reports that a former Lions WR is going to spend the next 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge.

A former Detroit Lions wide receiver who pleaded guilty to a second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge on accusations involving a then-14-year-old girl has been sentenced to spend two to 15 years in prison.

Tommie Boyd appeared Thursday in Macomb County Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski’s courtroom. The 39-year-old from Shelby Township entered his plea in January in exchange for authorities dropping several other charges.

Police say he grabbed the girl’s buttocks with both hands.

The Detroit News reports Druzinski told Boyd he is “probably a parent’s worst nightmare.”

It’s always sad when we see people we admired be exposed as predators. I loved Boyd’s hard-nosed style of play, but if one of those girls had been one of my kids, I would have wanted him to get even more than 15 years.
