Lions Trade Up to the 57th Pick and Take RB Mikel Leshoure

The Lions made an aggressive move up to fill a hole on the offensive side of the field and grab Mikel Leshoure.  LeShoure will pair with Jahvid Best to give the Lions a youg one two punch in the backfield.

I don’t like the price they paid as they surrendered their 3rd and 4th round picks and swapped places in the 5th and 7th rounds.  LeShoure is a big back with good moves and power, but there are other backs that fit the same bill that could have been had cheaper.  Apparently the Lions felt that the drop from LeShoure to that next grouping was too severe.

This leaves the Lions with two picks on the draft which will make it very difficult to fill some of the remaining gaps.  With a very uncertain free agency period, the Lions may have limited their opportunities to improve their defensive shortcomings.

Pricey move giving up a 3rd and 4th but I really like the fact they got a big back with good moves to compliment Best!

    • I think it was a little pricey, especially since there was good depth at running back in this draft, but he was the best on the board and if the Lions felt there was a big enough dropoff after him the move makes plenty of sense.
