Lions Draft LB Doug Hogue in the Fifth Round

Doug Hogue is a raw but athletic linebacker with only two years of defense under his belt.  Hogue was a running back until his junior year when he switched to linebacker, so he’s still learning how to play defense.  Obviously, as a former running back, Hogue possesses great athleticism, speed and agility.

He’s still learning how to read an offense and he’ll need work on his pass drops and understanding his role in the pass defense.  Hogue is definitely not the most prepared to come in and start right away, but he has great upside and depending on how fast he can add some bulk and get more comfortable on defense he could be a player.

It’s one of these raw guys that end up being a gem, u just hope it’s this one.

We’ll have to see, how he develops, the Lions really need to help at linebacker, does anyone know if he is fast?

  3. Kittaning-

He’s got pretty good speed, he ran a 4.63 40 at the combine and he played running back prior to moving to linebacker. He’s an athletic guy that hopefully blossoms into a starter.
