Leshoure Will Be at Lions Player Only Workouts

Lions second-round running back Mikel Leshoure will attend the team’s player-organized workouts next week, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The Lions’ first player-run workouts coincided with the Rookie Premiere event in Los Angeles, which along with some miscommunication, prevented Leshoure from participating.

“I’ll be at everything that this team has from here forward,” Leshoure said. “Everything.”

Leshoure (6-0, 227) ran for 2,557 yards and 23 touchdowns during his three-year career at the University of Illinois, earning second-team All-American after a junior season that saw him set a school single-season record with 1,697 yards on the ground.

The Lions traded a third- and fourth-round pick (guard John Moffitt, wide receiver Kris Durham) to the Seattle Seahawks to move up to the 57th overall pick to select Leshoure, who is expected to be a bigger-bodied complement to 5-10, 195-pound Jahvid Best, the second of the team’s two first-round picks in 2010.

“I’m very excited,” Leshoure said of getting his career started. “I just want to get up to Detroit. I’ve been there once, on my (official pre-draft) visit to see the Lions, but other than that, I’ve never been to Detroit, never seen the city, never met any of the people in the town. So that’s (why attending these workouts is important), just to get there and get comfortable with my new home and just meet people, meet my teammates and just pick their brains as much as I can while I can.”
