Suh Not Showing Up for Workouts a Non-Issue

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was not among the nearly 30 members of the Lions that turned for voluntary workouts at Detroit County Day High School on Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

McCosky adds that Suh, and first-round defensive tackle Nick Fairley, have not attended any of the workouts, which isn’t an issue to the players who have attended. “Whoever doesn’t show up is not going to be looked at as guys who are dodging this or who aren’t team players,” said center Dominic Raiola, a four-time captain on offense. “Everybody is going to be looked at the same. Nobody is going to be like, ‘You weren’t here, you are a step behind.’ Nothing like that. “This is just totally voluntary.

They will be here when they are here and they will be in shape.” Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch isn’t worried about the NFL’s reigning Defensive Rookie of the Year. “You know he’s working out, you know he’s in shape,” said Vanden Bosch. “Last time I saw him, he had shoulder surgery right after the season, and he was as strong as ever, in great shape.”

Fairley does not have a signed contract, so his absence can be easily excused, however, Bills first-round pick Marcell Dareus showed for his team’s informal workouts, even though his participation was limited to weightlifting and strength exercises. “There’s some risk involved,” Dareus said last month according to Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News. “There’s some risk just getting out of the bed. You could get hurt no matter what you do. But I’m just going to take it easy and come out here and just work out with the guys. Not do too much, not overextend myself, but just really come around and mold myself with them, just be together.”
