Fairley Tweaks His Foot at Lions Practice

Lions fans on hand at camp had to be feeling sick to their stomachs today when they rookie first round draft pick Nick Fairley left the field limping after taking part in a special teams drill.

This injury was believed to be a twisted knee, but coach Jim Schwartz said after practice that is not the case.

“Nick tweaked his foot,” Schwartz said. “We sent him in for X-rays to make sure there were no broken bones in there. He wanted to keep practicing.” The X-rays were negative but Schwartz said the foot would be examined again later Monday.

“We got him back out (on the field), but he was sore,” Schwartz said. “I don’t ever put timetables on things like that.”

The Lions are expecting big things from Fairley, as he and DT Ndamukong Suh are expected to give Detroit a huge 1-2 punch on the D-line in 2011. Both have to be on the field for that to happen though.
