Lions sign former Colts DE Dawson

To fill the roster spot vacated by the two-game suspension for defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, the Detroit Lions have signed veteran defensive lineman Keyunta Dawson, Tim Twentyman of reports.

A seventh-round pick out of Texas Tech by the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, Dawson has 113 tackles and a quarterback sack in 58 games over the last four seasons. Dawson started all 14 games he was active in 2008. In six career playoff games, two of which he started, Dawson has 11 tackles.

Dawson had five tackles in four preseason games for the Lions, but was released in September. Since his release, Dawson has had workouts with the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.

Recent concern over defensive end Lawrence Jackson’s thigh injury prompted the Lions to bring Dawson in for a workout last Wednesday.
