Lions Lose CB Eric Wright to Tampa Bay

Multiple outlets have reported that CB Eric Wright has agreed to a five year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers late last night or early this morning.  Wright signed with the Lions last August after he rejected a long term deal from the Browns.  He started opposite Chris Houston and struggled with consistency, as he has his whole career.

The Lions were negotiating with Wright and wanted to keep him, however the five year deal and corresponding financial commitment was too rich for them.  The Lions are not in a position to overspend for an up and down player who could flame out just as soon as become a Pro Bowler.

Cross your fingers that Wright becomes a Pro Bowler, the better he performs then more likely the Lions receive a compensatory pick now that the Lions have lost him via free agency.
