Alphonso Smith Nailed with $15,750 Fine for Horse-Collar Tackle

Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith was fined $15,750 for unnecessary roughness (horse collar tackle) by the NFL for his take-down of receiver Bears receiver Brandon Marshall this past Monday, Anwar Richardson of Mlive reports. Detroit signed Smith, who was a free agent, days before that game, but he now must make a donation to the NFL.

Although Smith was fined, Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was not penalized for his aggressive take-down of Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, while defensive tackle Corey Williams avoided a fine for his unnecessary roughness penalty.
