Lions To Get FieldTurf At Ford Field Starting In 2013

The Lions are going with a new turf at Ford Field starting in 2013, as the team will replace artificial turf with the new advanced FieldTurf.

The Detroit Lions’ home field is about to get an upgrade. The team will replace its current artificial playing surface at Ford Field with FieldTurf’s latest product, FieldTurf Classic HD.

The new surface replaces the original FieldTurf field installed when the stadium opened in 2002. FieldTurf Classic HD is designed to be softer and more durable.

“Over the past 11 seasons, FieldTurf has provided us with a reliable and player-friendly surface to prepare and play,” said Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand. “We’re very excited to have FieldTurf upgrade their original surface at Ford Field and look forward to having one of the best and most durable NFL playing fields for years to come.”
