Lions Select TE Michael Williams with the 211th Pick

The Lions did not resugn Will Heller this offseason because they needed to get a cheaper player at that position.  They just drafted his replacement and he might as well be a clone of Heller.  He actually may even be assigned his #89.

Williams is a huge tigh end known most for his blocking but offers some sneaky athleticism as a receiver.  He will never be a vertical threat, but he will be a great blocking tight end and special teams player who will make an occasional play in the passing game.  Williams has a ton of experience with pro caliber coaching which means he will be able to step in right away.

This is a player that will make the team and contribute right away in as a third tight end and special teamer.  You can’t ask for much more of a 7th round pick.
