Lions Select WR Corey Fuller with the 171st Pick

The Lions are at it again, taking a player with a lot of upside but needs some refinement.  Corey Fuller played football in high school but chose to run track at Kansas in college.  He transferred to Virginia Tech and decided he wanted to play football again.  He has great speed and is a very fluid and natural athlete.  Despite being a somewhat raw receiver, his route running is above average and he is a natural hands catcher.  He does need to improve his concentration to cut down on drops.

Fuller is still filling out his frame since switching to football.  Track athletes are tall and lean so he needed to add weight and bulk to hold up physically.  He’s added some weight but has more to go.

I know Ryan Swope is a bigger name and was available, he had 4 concussions in college and the Lions didn’t want that risk.

Overall, he is a very athletic player with size, speed, agility and natural hands.  Many thought he’d go in the late 3rd or 4th round, so the Lions got value in the 6th.
