The Lions have been searching for an explosive receiver to complement Calvin Johnson for several NFL seasons.
If receiver Nate Burleson is correct, that search is over, Anwar Richardson of Mlive reports.
Burleson believes Lions receiver Patrick Edwards has enough talent and speed to make this offense more explosive in 2013. Detroit added free agent running back Reggie Bush this offseason, but Burleson’s money is on Edwards right now.
“Patrick Edwards is playing helluva ball right now,” Burleson said. “He was my dark horse last year before he tweaked his hamstring. He’s not so much of a dark house now. He’s just a guy who needs to prove he can stay healthy and consistent with his play, and I guarantee he will be a big-time playmaker for us this year.”
“He can catch the underneath ball, turn it up the field for 50 yards, or he can run past you and catch a nine-route over the top of your head, and that’s the type of guy we need,” Burleson added. “A guy that can balance out this receiving corps with Calvin, myself, the tight ends we have, and of course, Reggie in the backfield.”
