Defensive tackle Nick Fairley has yet to finish a season due to injury. Fairley is hoping his third season with the Lions will be a great one. Nick has done a lot in the off-season to come into training camp feeling great and ready.
Fairley states he didn’t eat any kind of unhealthy foods to be in the best shape for the upcoming season. With a loss of weight, Fairley has a quicker step. He’s interacting down field more chasing the ball. In college, Fairley did not have his first big season until his third collegiate year (second year with Auburn). Fairley hopes to have a break out season with the Lions like he did with Auburn back in 2010.
“My first year at Auburn I was kind of figuring things out, and next thing you know, bam, it happened. I’d say I took my first two years (with the Lions) kind of figuring things out, hopefully, third year, I’ll break out.”
Since being drafted into the NFL in 2011, Fairley has been weighed down with injuries. In his first season, he missed 6 games due to a foot injury, and never made a start. In year two, he missed another 3 games due to a shoulder injury, but started 7 games. The question is can he make it through all 16?
Everyone is expecting Fairley to step up and have this spectacular season, including Fairley himself. If he can stay healthy through all 16 games, this might be the season everyone has been waiting for. The Lions have some new players all around on defense but what will impact the team most is some aggression at the line with Fairley and Ndamukong Suh. Reports say during the first week of camp, Fairley and Suh have been unstoppable. If they can hold that statement through all 16 games, there is no doubt the Lions are on the road to great improvements and a winning season.
