Alright Lions Fans! Are we ready for Louis Delmas to return to the Lions defense just as much as he is?
“Like I’ve been telling my coaches, this is the best I’ve felt in two years” Delmas expressed on Tuesday.
After missing 8 games last season due to a knee injury, Delmas says he feels great and wants to start the first preseason game against the Jets. He is happy with the way things are going this training camp, but Delmas knows he can’t push too hard. He has been taking it easy during training camp this year so he don’t experience too much irritation or pain in his knees.
Delmas wants to be on the field every day. “I think the most important thing is the first game of the season and I definitely think I’ll be ready,” Delmas said. Delmas only believes he is feeling healthier over time. He plans to make all 16 games, just don’t expect it. He has an injury and that could always reoccur. “Anything can happen. I’ll take it one game at a time and go in there and play my heart out. If I can make the second game, I’ll make the second game. If I can make all 16 games, I’ll make them. I plan on doing it, yes I do, but anything can happen.”
With these injuries, is it dangerous for Delmas to throw his body out there and make tackles the way he does? Should he try to change his style a little? That is something even Delmas is unsure he can do.
He has said he can have that mindset, but in the moment, he will most likely go back to the way he has always played the game. That’s really the only way he knows how to play. Deliver a hard hit.
