The Lions have rewarded safety Don Carey with a solid deal, giving the nickel back a three-year extension that will keep him in Detroit through 2016.
Carey was very good in the teams nickel defensive packages late in the season. It’s the second straight season he’s earned an extension.
The deal for Carey included an $800,000 signing bonus and has $50,000 roster bonuses in each of the last two years.
Carey, who signed a one-year extension late in the 2012 season, started two of the final three games this year when a number of other Lions players were banged up.
The 27-year-old also is a solid special teams player as well.
