Jim Caldwell coached running back Ray Rice for two seasons in Baltimore and with Reggie Bush’s lingering ankle injury it would somewhat make sense for the Lions to sign him but coach Jim Caldwell said it isn’t happening, Chris McCosky of the Detroit News reports.
“We haven’t considered that at this point,” Caldwell said Monday.
Rice ran for 1,364 and 1,143 yards in the two years Caldwell was an assistant offensive coach for the Ravens. Rice had been suspended by the NFL after video of him striking his then-fiancee was released.
Caldwell doesn’t think the NFL will close its doors to Rice forever.
“I am not sure what will happen to him in this league,” Caldwell said. “Certainly I believe in second chances. At some point I think he will get one. But when it’s going to happen, I don’t know.”
The Lions are very strong defensively, and will at some point need to improve their offense.
Our offense is very strong, it’s how we use it.
I think we need to improve our O-Line completely. I think it’s about time that Raiola retires.
