Lions general manager Bob Quinn made his first significant roster cut this offseason, releasing running back Joique Bell on on Tuesday, Justin Rogers of Mlive reports.
Bell, a Benton Harbor native who played his college ball at Wayne State, found his way to the Lions’ roster at the end of the 2011 season when he was poached off the New Orleans Saints practice squad.
In the past four seasons, Bell went on to become a key contributor to Detroit’s ground game, appearing in 60 contests, rushing for 2,235 yards and gaining another 1,640 yards on 161 receptions. He scored 23 total touchdowns during that stretch.
