The Lions were going to take a QB in this draft and they elected to take Jake Rudock in the 6th round. Rudock is an accurate passer but he rarely throws downfield. He’s not my favorite pick with Brandon Allen and Jeff Driskel on the board. Rudock needs to add bulk and also arm strength. His slight build could lead to injuries if he does take the field.
I don’t think this selection will impact Dan Orlovsky in any way. Orlovsky has game experience and the trust of the coaches. Rudock is a developmental guy that may not even make the active roster, but find his way to the practice squad for development.
