Lions Trim Roster Cutting 10 Players; Placing Long Snapper Jimmy Landes on IR

The Lions have cleared 11 players from their roster, leaving them three moves shy of the 75-man limit that will be imposed by the NFL at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Kyle Meinke of Mlive reports.

Tight end Matthew Mulligan and cornerback Crezdon Butler were among the notable players who were cut. Mulligan was Detroit’s top blocking tight end while Brandon Pettigrew works his way back from a torn ACL, and Butler was the hero of the win at Lambeau Field last year.

The rest of today’s cuts: OL Geoff Schwartz, K Devon Bell, WR Quinshad Davis, G Chase Farris, DE Deonte Gibson, DE Louis Palmer, CB Rashaad Reynolds and DE Quanterus Smith.

Detroit also announced that long snapper Jimmy Landes is being placed on injured reserve after he suffered a shoulder injury that requires surgery. His season is over, and Don Muhlbach will return for another season as Detroit’s long snapper.
