Lions Chat with Packers’ Associate Head Coach Winston Moss About Head Coaching Spot

The Lions have interviewed Winston Moss for their vacant head coaching position, Kyle Meinke of Mlive reports.

Moss is currently the Packers’ associate head coach and linebackers coach. As such, he’s a bit of an unorthodox candidate for Detroit.

He’s the only candidate connected to the job who isn’t a coordinator, for one. He’s never been a coordinator, for two. And if he’s not hired by the Lions, there are some who think he might actually be fired.

Green Bay has shaken up its defensive staff after finishing 22nd in yards allowed and 26th in points allowed last season. Coordinator Dom Capers, inside linebackers coach Scott McCurley and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac were all fired, along with offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett and quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

Moss has been spared, for now. And he’s the fourth coach to interview for Detroit’s head job, following Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel.
