Lions Ink Defensive Tackle Sylvester Williams

The Lions added help at defensive tackle on Wednesday with the signing of Sylvester Williams, Kyle Meinke of Mlive reports.

Williams, 29, hit the market just one year into a three-year, $16.4 million contract he signed with Tennessee last offseason. He had just 20 tackles and no sacks for the Titans, his worst season since his rookie year, and was cut in a cost-saving measure.

“I was excited about the direction they were headed,” Williams said. “Excited about the opportunity to build something.”

Williams’ addition comes hours after a report that the Lions were signing Ricky-Jean Francois at the position. But that report appears to have been erroneous — Francois called it “fake news” — and his future with Detroit is unclear.
