Effort Wasted Again as Redskins Survive Lions 25-17

As has been the case the past few weeks, the Lions played hard and had a shot vs the Washington Redskins Sunday at Ford Field, but after having a 10-3 lead, the team fell apart and lost in the end 25-17. Washington piled on 439 yards of offense, and outscored the Lions 22-7 over the final 40 minutes.

The Skins were led by a huge day for WR Santana Moss, who caught a 50-yard score from Jason Campbell that made it 16-10 Skins with 4:42 left in the third quarter. Then with 11:29 left Moss raced through the Lions special teams for an 80-yard TD on a punt return that put the Redskins up 22-10. Lions QB Dan Orlovsky came back with a TD pass ot Calvin Johnson from 17 yards out to close it to 22-17, but the Skins wrapped up the scoring with a Shaun Suisham field goal to make it 25-17 with 1:56 left.

Detroit’s last chance ended with Orlovsky hitting Johnson with a pass that was a yard short of a first down on 4th- and-3 from their own 45. As has been the case all season, the Lions offense was outgained by plenty, as they were only able to go for 274 yards, outgained by Washington by 165 yards. They also had just 12 first downs to 22 for the Skins.

Campbell was 23-for-28 for 328 yards with a score and a QB rating of 127.4. Orlovsky was 21-for-35 for 223 yards with a score. Moss had a big day with 9 grabs for 140 yards and the bg 50-yard score. Clinton Portis again had another big day on the ground, as he rushed for 126 yards on 24 carries (5.3 yards per carry). The Lions had just 57 yards rushing on the day on 15 carries.

The Lions at 0-7 will look to get in the win column once again as they play at Chicago vs the Bears at 1pm.
