Raiola Fined $7,500 for Gesture Towards Fans

Guess that the Lions didn’t like the gesture of center Dominic Raiola, as they fined him $7,500 for making the gesture toward fans during Sunday’s game. “We have tremendous respect and appreciation for all of our fans and we believe Dominic’s behavior this past Sunday was not consistent with what we expect from members of our team,” Lions executive vice president Tom Lewand said. “Our players, coaches and staff are held to high standards of sportsmanship and conduct. We are disappointed with Dominic’s behavior and apologize to any fans who were offended by it.”

Raiola, though, told the Detroit Free Press that he did not regret making the hand gesture toward heckling fans during the loss that dropped the Lions to 0-13. “I don’t take one thing back,” Raiola said Monday. “I’ll say the same thing to a fan that I see in the street. I wish I could give my address out to some fans. I’ll do that.

“But, you know, I can’t. Nobody plays with fists. Everybody wants to play with metal. So I can’t. I’m so frustrated. I’m tired of being a doormat for people to just talk to us how they want to talk to us. I’m just not going to put up with it anymore.”
