Lions Gab Rapid Recap: Stafford and Smith Cap Fantastic Finish in 27-23 Win

In 2011 the Lions became the comeback kids with their flair for the dramatic late in games. It took one week into the 2012 season to find that magic again.

Matthew Stafford had one of his worst games in a long time, yet got the job done in the end, as the Lions rallied from 20-13 down and 23-20 down in the 4th quarter to beat the Rams 27-23.

Stafford’s only TD of the game came when it mattered most, with :10 seconds left as he hit RB Kevin Smith with a 5-yard score for the game-winner.

The Lions QB was 32-for-48 for 355 yards with a TD and three picks. They outgained the Rams 429 yards to 247 for St.Louis.

Smith came up huge for the Lions, as he had 13 runs for 62 yards and four grabs for 29 yards with the game winning score.

Rams QB Sam Bradford was 17-for-25 for 194 yards with a touchdown and no picks for the Rams, who took a 23-20 lead with 1:55 left when Greg Zuerlein kicked a 46-yard field goal.
