GM Mayhew speaks on Fairley’s inconsistency

Over the course of his career, Fairley has been an effective player, but there are times when he just doesn’t stand out.

“He could play more consistently,” Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said at the Senior Bowl. “I mean, he’s got to mature a little bit as a professional, I think. I think that’d be a big step in him playing more consistently.”

A question about Fairley’s weight appeared, asking if nearly 320 pounds affected his performance this season.

Mayhew said, “I wouldn’t say his weight is too high.” Mayhew did state that Fairley could “re-position” his weight.

Fairley did very well this season, statistically. He recorded a total of 36 tackles, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, a safety and a touchdown. That’s a pretty big season to be considered inconsistent, right? This only shows that the Lions see a lot in Fairley’s overall potential performance.
